Using an AI coach to reduce Quality Inspector training time by up to 40%

A glowing circuit board with gears in the center of a 3D holographic sphere hovers above an outstretched hand. The sphere is surrounded by dynamic, colorful lines and a world map, symbolizing global technology and innovation. The background is dark and blurred.

Who is the client?

A leading aerospace original equipment manufacturer.

What was the problem?

Quality control is paramount to our client. Even a simple production defect could cost lives, so every new component they manufacture has to be checked to ensure 100% compliance.

But training and certifying new quality inspectors takes at least six months — the majority of which is classroom-based. Our client needed a faster, more efficient way to conduct this training, so they could get more inspectors on the ground sooner.

What was the Expleo solution?

We developed a Generative AI (GenAI) coach that acts as a virtual assistant.

Trained on thousands of pages of our technical materials (including text, diagrams, and video content), trainees can ask it any conformity-related question as they’re carrying out quality checks — all via a chat interface.

The GenAI coach also provides links to the source documents with its responses, enhancing explainability and eliminating the hallucination effect. Additionally, the user is prompted with suggested queries to expand their knowledge on the original topic.

How did that help?

Trainee quality inspectors are spending less time in the classroom and more time learning on the job. In fact, our GenAI coach means they can often start work at least two months earlier than previously possible.

Without any compromise in training quality, our tool is helping accelerate the learning process, ensuring we have trained and job-ready quality inspectors available to scale to our clients’ needs.

What were the results ?

Trainee quality inspectors can now receive 24/7 real-time training support. And that’s having a profound impact:

  • Reducing training duration by 30% – 40%.
  • Improving operational efficiency by up to 60%.
  • Accelerating deployment of skilled technical quality inspectors into the business.
  • Significantly improving the ability to cross skill engineers.

Could it work for me?

Our GenAI coach can help accelerate any training process, not just quality inspection. By ingesting all relevant materials, and interacting via back-and-forward conversations, it can provide trainees with the 24/7 support needed to get them up to speed faster.

Training new quality inspectors requires extensive classroom-based training. But Generative AI is challenging status-quo. Expleo’s latest AI powered coaching tools provide trainees with precise and tailored answers to technical questions, so they can learn faster on the job
