Due to their size, tight installation space is less important than for passenger cars. Likewise, the high energy density of hydrogen (1kg of liquid hydrogen contains about three times as much energy as diesel) is showing its strength in the utility vehicle market. For this reason, more and more OEMs are focusing on the compact installation of hydrogen technologies in fuel cell cars. In Japan, for example, the number of fuel cell cars is expected to grow to 800,000 by 2030, with China and Germany following suit with their own national hydrogen strategies.<\/p>\n<p>In the automotive sector, and for stationary hydrogen applications (tank systems), Expleo is involved in a wide variety of developments. These reliable properties can help unlock the potential of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, which are well known to be variable and localised. In order to use hydrogen technologies in a climate-friendly way, low-carbon generation should be prioritised. For example, through power-to-gas technologies, excess renewables are used for electrolysis and hydrogen generation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2c529bf gg-font-v4 gg-custom-dark-purple-color gg-print-pb-1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2c529bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Decarbonisation of industrial sectors<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a4b8a27 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a4b8a27\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Hydrogen is already used in many industries today to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in sectors that have historically been difficult to decarbonise. For example, the replacement of heavy fuel oil in container ships (H2 ships), hydrogen in aviation (green aviation), or advances in the industrial sector for carbon-free steel production (green steel). The increasing use of the energy carrier in many places is naturally contributing to its spread. With around 100 hydrogen filling stations (<a href=\"https:\/\/h2.live\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H2live<\/a>), Germany is a pioneer in Europe. In Asia and North America, the signs are also pointing to hydrogen. In California alone, the number of H2 filling stations is expected to grow to 200 by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Hydrogen has the potential to become the energy carrier of tomorrow. Perhaps the author Jules Verne was right in his novel \u201cThe Mysterious Island\u201d in 1874 when he wrote:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
