In July 2020, the Health Services Executive (HSE) went live with possibly their most ambitious technology project to date: the COVID Tracker Ireland (CTI) mobile app. This project has been hailed as “a feat of ingenuity, agility and tenacity”. To date, the app has helped to identify 10,000 people who would be considered ‘close contacts’ of someone who had contracted the virus. Expleo is proud to have delivered critical quality services to support the successful and rapid delivery of this pivotal tool to help defend society against the COVID-19 virus.

The HSE is responsible for all health related activities within the Republic of Ireland. With the onset of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the HSE recognised the need for a contact tracing app that could track and record everyone that an infected person might have been in contact with in the previous 14 days. This is the standard period when the virus is in incubation and the person would be symptomatic.

Our team went through a rigorous, lengthy process; putting the app through its paces to ensure that it was fast, reliable and easy to use in order to maximise uptake. We are delighted to see such high volumes of people downloading it and hope that this will continue so that we can all work together to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection for everyone.

Quality brings trust

Expleo knew, if the public lost confidence, then the take-up for this app would be much lower than what’s needed for the app to be effective. Our team was confident that we had the right mixture of boldness and reliability to ensure the country launched an app that was fit for purpose. We got the call on a Saturday afternoon, we had a team assembled by Monday morning. The result:
